About Shane

Your voice on the District Council of Yankalilla.

Why I Do This

I love our region — the rolling hills, the coastline, the tight-knit communities that make our entire district so special. That love is what drives me to stand for council, and it's what keeps me showing up every day.

I believe things should be done for the right reasons and in the right way. No shortcuts. No hidden agendas. Just honest, community-first leadership that puts residents at the centre of every decision.

Even in difficult times, I have a clear vision and can find a way forward by setting goals and targets. That's the approach I bring to council — practical, focused, and always moving our community in a positive direction.

How I Became Your Councillor

My path to council wasn't a straight line — but I believe it shows just how committed I am to serving this community.

2022

First Attempt — General Election

I first put my hand up for the District Council of Yankalilla in the 2022 local government elections. I wasn't successful that time around, but the experience only strengthened my resolve to keep working for our region.

Second Attempt — Supplementary Election

When a vacancy arose in the Light Ward, I nominated again in the 2024 supplementary election. After the count and distribution of preferences on 23 July 2024, I narrowly missed out. But giving up was never an option.

Elected — Recount Following Resignation

When Councillor Glen Rowlands resigned from the Light Ward, a recount of the July 2024 supplementary election votes was conducted on 16 October 2024. This time, I was declared elected as your councillor.

Three elections. One clear message — I'm dedicated to this region and I'm not going anywhere.

What I Do as Your Councillor

📋

Debate & Decide

I participate in meetings to debate and vote on plans, budgets, and policies alongside fellow councillors — always with our community's best interests in mind.

I help guide long-term planning and policy to ensure our community grows sustainably — protecting what we love while preparing for what's ahead.

🤝

Stay Connected

I attend local events, assist residents, and collaborate with the mayor, fellow councillors, the CEO, and council staff. I'm always approachable and available.

My Values

Integrity

I act ethically, declare conflicts of interest, and always put the community first.

👁️

Transparency

Open, honest communication. No hidden agendas. You deserve to know how and why decisions are made.

💪

Determination

Even in tough times, I set clear goals and find a way forward for our community.

Beyond Council

Council is a big part of my life, but there's more to who I am.

🏛️

Community Leadership

I'm the Chair of the Yankalilla Normanville Progress Association, working alongside community members to advocate for local improvements and bring people together.

💼

Professional Life

I'm the owner of Application Service Provider, an IT company, and Fleurieu Imagery, a photography business. Both keep me connected to the region and the people in it.

👨‍👩‍👧

Family

I'm married to Tanya and a proud father to Taniqa. Family is at the heart of everything I do, and it's a big part of why I care so deeply about the future of our community.

💛

Disability Advocacy

Living alongside disability gives me a deep, personal understanding of what it means to navigate a world that isn't always built with everyone in mind, particularly when it comes to hidden disabilities that aren't always visible to others. I'm passionate about ensuring our community is inclusive and that the needs of people with disability are front and centre in the decisions we make.
