Protecting Our Local Heritage

Preserving the places and stories that shape who we are.

As an Elected Member, I am committed to ensuring the unique heritage of our region is protected, respected and preserved for future generations. Our heritage—whether it is historic buildings, cultural landscapes, community stories or Aboriginal cultural sites—plays a vital role in shaping our identity and sense of place.

Through the recent Policy Code Amendment process, 51 locations have been identified as Local Heritage Places. While I cannot guarantee the outcome of every individual site, I can play an important role in highlighting their significance, advocating for their protection, and ensuring they are appropriately considered in Council decision-making.

How I Support Heritage Protection

In my role, I focus on the following areas.

Championing recognised heritage places

Supporting the inclusion and consideration of identified Local Heritage Places within Council planning processes.

Advocating for balanced decision-making

Ensuring development is managed in a way that respects and enhances the character of heritage locations.

Raising awareness

Highlighting the importance of these 51 identified sites and the broader heritage values they represent within our community.

Supporting policy implementation

Promoting the effective rollout of Council's new Local Heritage Policy once adopted.

Encouraging community pride and involvement

Working with residents to build awareness, understanding and stewardship of our shared heritage.

My Commitment

While outcomes cannot always be guaranteed, I remain committed to advocating for our region's heritage—ensuring it is recognised, respected, and carefully considered as our community continues to grow and evolve.
