How to Vote
SA local government elections are conducted entirely by postal vote — there are no polling booths. Here's how it works, step by step.
It only takes a few minutes, and your vote makes a real difference to the future of our community.
Check you're enrolled
Make sure you're on the electoral roll before 5:00 pm on Friday 31 July 2026. You can check your enrolment online through the Electoral Commission SA website. If you're not enrolled, you won't receive a ballot pack and won't be able to vote.
Receive your ballot pack in the mail
SA local government elections are conducted entirely by post. Between 15–21 October 2026, you'll receive a ballot pack in your letterbox. It will include your ballot paper, a candidate information guide, a ballot envelope, and a reply-paid return envelope.
Read the candidate information
Your ballot pack includes a booklet with statements from each candidate. Take the time to read about who's standing and what they plan to do for your community.
Mark your ballot paper
Number the candidates in order of your preference, starting with 1 for your first choice. You can number as many or as few candidates as you like — but the more preferences you express, the more say you have in the final result.
Seal and return your vote
Place your completed ballot paper in the ballot envelope and seal it. Then place the ballot envelope inside the reply-paid return envelope and sign the declaration on the back. Post it back as early as possible — no stamp needed.
Make sure it arrives on time
Your vote must reach the returning officer by 5:00 pm on Wednesday 11 November 2026. Don't leave it to the last minute — post it well ahead of the deadline to make sure your voice is counted.
🗳️ That's it — six simple steps.
Your vote is your voice. Make sure it's heard by posting your ballot well before the 11 November 2026 deadline.
📣 My Recommended Voting Order
I will release my recommended voting order after nominations have closed and all candidates have been declared. Check back here after 8 September 2026 for my recommendations.
Common Questions
What if I don't receive my ballot pack?
If your ballot pack hasn't arrived by late October, contact the Electoral Commission SA on 1300 655 232 or visit ecsa.sa.gov.au to request a replacement.
Is voting compulsory?
No. Voting in SA local government elections is voluntary. But your vote is one of the most direct ways to shape the future of your community — I encourage everyone to have their say.
Do I need to number every candidate?
No. You can number as many or as few candidates as you like. However, the more preferences you express, the more influence your vote has if your first choice is eliminated during the count.
Can I vote in person?
SA local government elections are postal only — there are no polling booths. If you have difficulty completing or returning your ballot, contact the Electoral Commission SA for assistance.
I've just moved to the area. Can I vote?
Yes, as long as you update your enrolment to your new address before 5:00 pm on Friday 31 July 2026. You can check and update your details through the ECSA enrolment checker.
