My Ideas
Real issues. Practical solutions. A better future for our region.
This is simply how my brain works — I'm always thinking about the future. What we do today shapes what our region looks like tomorrow, and if we have vision, we can map that path out together.
These ideas haven't been formally validated or approved by anyone. They're conversation starters — early thoughts I believe are worth exploring as a community.
Community First, Always
At the end of the day, everything I do is about people. I'm committed to ethical, transparent leadership that keeps residents informed and involved in the decisions that shape our future.
- ✓Open, honest communication with residents
- ✓Attending local events and staying accessible
- ✓Declaring conflicts of interest and acting with integrity
- ✓Collaborating with the mayor, councillors, and staff for the best outcomes
Smart Growth & Sustainable Planning
Growth is coming — the question is how we manage it. I advocate for careful rezoning that balances housing demand with infrastructure capacity, environmental protection, and the character of our townships.
- ✓Ensuring rezoning includes proper structure planning and infrastructure assessment
- ✓Meaningful community consultation on all planning changes
- ✓Balancing housing demand with environmental risks and rural interface
- ✓Reviewing infrastructure impacts to support sustainable growth
💧 Securing Our Water Supply
As our region grows, so does the demand on our water infrastructure. I want to lobby SA Water to future-proof our water supply so it keeps pace with development and community needs.
- ✓Lobby SA Water to increase water supply to meet growing demand
- ✓Increase the capacity of the water treatment facility or build a new one
- ✓Connect the Myponga Reservoir to the desalination plant
Protecting Our Township Shopping Precincts
Our main streets in Yankalilla and Normanville are the heart of our community — supporting local businesses, walkability, and our unique identity. I'm committed to keeping them vibrant.
- ✓Supporting zoning that promotes pedestrian-friendly streets and active shopfronts
- ✓Limiting incompatible uses that erode local character
- ✓Encouraging adaptive reuse and heritage-sensitive development
- ✓Investing in infrastructure that keeps our precincts attractive and accessible
Safer Roads & Freight Bypass
Heavy freight trucks through Yankalilla and Normanville impact safety, noise, and the feel of our towns. I'm pushing for a dedicated freight bypass corridor to divert heavy vehicles around our townships.
- ✓Investigating eastern rural and split bypass options
- ✓Considering environmental buffers, bushfire risk, and traffic flow
- ✓Protecting the economic vitality of our main streets
- ✓Working toward detailed mapping and integration with regional transport studies
Smarter Waste Management
As global waste and fuel costs continue to rise, so will the cost of waste services for our community. The Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority (FRWA) needs to stay ahead of these pressures by running as efficiently as possible — so residents get the best value and the best service.
- ✓Push for an annual Service Review of the FRWA to ensure it's operating at optimum efficiency
- ✓Keep waste costs manageable for ratepayers as global pressures increase
📚 Waste Education
Good waste management starts at home. Ongoing community education programs are essential to help residents sort their waste correctly and handle hazardous items safely.
- ✓Continue and expand educational programs on what goes in which bin
- ✓Raise awareness about items that need to be handled separately, such as batteries, e-waste, and chemicals
- ✓Help reduce contamination in recycling streams to keep costs down
Sensible Retail & Bulky Goods Planning
Residents shouldn't have to leave the region for major purchases. I'm working to identify the right locations for bulky goods retail — in a way that supports, not undermines, our main streets.
- ✓Identifying suitable sites with good access to Main South Road
- ✓Keeping bulky goods separate from town centres to reduce retail leakage
- ✓Developing traffic and staging plans aligned with road upgrades
- ✓Ensuring proper zoning fit, services, and environmental buffers
